A Tucson couple were killed Wednesday night when their SUV was knocked off the road by another vehicle on Interstate 19 north of Sahuarita, police said.
Francisco Ayala-Rodriguez, 61 and Ana F. Ayala-Rodriguez, 59, were driving south on I-19 just north of Pima Mine Road when their 1998 Chevy Suburban was allegedly rear-ended by a man driving a 2010 Ford Explorer, said Brian Jimenez, an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman.
The collision forced the Suburban into the median and caused it to roll, ejecting both passengers, neither of whom were wearing seatbelts, Jimenez said.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, Jimenez said. It is unknown which victim was driving, he said.
The driver of the Explorer, 84-year-old William Crawford of Tucson, was transported to a local hospital. His vehicle ran off the road to the right after the collision, coming to a stop after crashing through several mesquite trees, Jimenez said.
