The movie "Goats," starring David Duchovny and partially shot in Tucson in early 2011, is finally set to open in theaters across the country.
After opening in larger markets Aug. 10, the movie will hit Tucson Aug. 24 with an exclusive engagement at the Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway.
The strategy distributor Image Entertainment is taking is called a platform release and is often used for lower-budget indie films that attempt to build word-of-mouth as they expand their theater counts.
The movie, based on a novel written by screenwriter Mark Jude Poirier, features Duchovny as an eccentric goat herder who forms a bond with a struggling teenage boy (Graham Phillips). It debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
"Goats" is off to a poor start on the critical front - all five reviews currently listed on RottenTomatoes.com are negative.

However, Variety praises the "beautiful wide-screen cinematography" and says the "kick of seeing David Duchovny looking like a stoned Jesus" is worthwhile.
"Newsroom" signals upcoming Tucson episode
After last week's episode of HBO's TV news drama "The Newsroom," previews for upcoming episodes indicated that the show will tackle the infamous Jan. 8, 2011, shooting in which six people died and 13 were injured, including then-U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Since scores of news anchors came to Tucson to cover the shooting and its aftermath, it would stand to reason that "The Newsroom" would have taped an episode in Tucson. But that didn't happen.
"No, they didn't shoot here at all, sorry to say," Peter Catalanotte of the Tucson Film Office said via email.
NPR shuffles lineup
Due in part to feedback from reader satisfaction surveys, NPR 89.1-FM/1550-AM is shaking up its weekend lineup, adding three new shows.
New to the lineup are the human interest profile show "Snap Judgment" (1 p.m. Saturdays), the environmental news show "Living on Earth" (2 p.m. Saturdays) and the science- and philosophy- focused "RadioLab" (1 p.m. Sundays).
Gone from the lineup is "Whad'Ya Know," a comedy and interview program.
