It began as a trickle. But within hours, on April 6, 1983, the flow of water was more than the dam at Lakeside Lake could stand. The flow gradually increased as the concrete spillway crumbled. Water 2 feet deep filled Pantano Wash from bank to bank.
Although not much could be done to save the East Side lake's fish population, attempts were made to relocate at least some of the hundreds of ducks that called the lake home.
