A stretch of road downtown is closed off while emergency crews look for a natural gas leak.
East Pennington Street is closed between North Stone and North Scott avenues, said Capt. Tricia Tracy, a Tucson Fire Department spokeswoman.
The leak was discovered by a surveyor doing a routine leak check, said Libby Howell, a Southwest Gas spokeswoman. No evacuations were made, and no gas readings came from inside area buildings, she said.
Southwest Gas officials remoted turned off the gas to the area, causing a service outage for about 100 customers, Howell said.
There's no timetable for the road's reopening. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
