Wingspan's Southern Arizona Gender Alliance and the University of Arizona will sponsor next week's second annual Tucson Transgender Awareness Week.
Events will begin with a free, public forum, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Matter: Transgender Veterans Forum," at 5 p.m. Monday in the Anzaldua Room at Wingspan, 425 E. Seventh St.
Wingspan is Southern Arizona's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community center.
Other events include a Trans Poetry Reading at noon on Wednesday in the UA's Alumni Plaza, and at 7 p.m., also Wednesday transgender performance artist Kate Bornstein is scheduled to perform in the UA's Gallagher Theater.
The week will culminate with a local observance of International Transgender Day of Remembrance at 5:30 p.m. in Catalina Park, North Fourth Avenue and East Second Street, followed by a procession to Wingspan.
