Joseph L. Scott, a Tucson businessman and the husband of Tucson City Councilwoman Shirley Scott, died on Saturday while visiting a sibling. He was 78.
Councilwoman Scott confirmed her husband died unexpectedly of a heart attack on his birthday while visiting his ailing brother.
While often at her side at local political events, Joseph Scott spent more than two decades giving back to the community, serving on a number of city and other local commissions, she said.
The couple ran Scott Supply Service since 1974, although it was sold several years ago.
The pair were married for over 51 years and have four grown children as well as a number of grandchildren.
