New neon signs tout Tucson's historic 'automobile gateway' route
A new neon sign for the Miracle Mile Historic District glows as traffic moves along North Stone Avenue just south of West Speedway. It is one of four neon signs, street sign toppers and pole banners marking the district that loosely runs from West Drachman to West Miracle mile between North Oracle Road and North Stone Avenue. The project seeks to note an area that was once "a vital automobile gateway into Tucson," before construction of I-10 in 1958.
