The driver of a stolen car was shot and wounded by police late Tuesday in a car chase on Tucson's south side, authorities say.
The incident started about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday following a reported carjacking near East Broadway and North Camino Seco, Tucson police said in a news release.
A description of the armed carjacker and the license plate of the stolen vehicle was broadcast across police channels. A short time later the vehicle was spotted near South Sixth Avenue and West 44th Street, the release said.
A police chase ensued. It ended on westbound West Ajo Way near the Interstate 19 overpass, where the unidentified driver was shot and wounded, the release said.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, the multi-agency unit that investigates local police shootings, was called in to handle the case.
