2005 Shootings
Jose Roberto Solano, 22
● On Oct. 1, Solano and another man fled from police. They were suspected of kidnapping and connected with the attempted murder of an undercover officer. As they ran into desert, police heard one shot and thought it was directed at them. A TPD officer fired back once. Solano had fatally shot himself.
Miguel Angel Kovrig, 40

On Sept. 29, two officers fatally wounded Kovrig after he had been threatening to shoot his family and didn't obey commands to drop his gun, police said.
Randy L. Helton, 43
● On Sept. 23, police shot and killed Helton after they responded to a family fight. Helton had assaulted two family members with a club and invaded a neighbor's house to escape police. Police thought he was armed with a gun when they confronted him outside, but Helton, who was suicidal, was pointing another object that looked like a gun. It turned out to be a plate holder.
Dale Andrew Rowles, 50
● On Aug. 13, Rowles committed a carjacking and a bank robbery before pointing a shotgun at police. Two officers shot and killed him.
Stormy Stone, 19
● On July 14, police shot and injured Stone after officers pulled over a stolen car and Stone, the driver, slammed the car into a police cruiser, injuring an officer.
Matthew James Albrecht, 19
● On July 12, Albrecht was shot fatally by an officer after he pointed a gun at the officer's partner during a traffic stop.
Tanisha Marie Briscoe, 26
● On July 8, officers fired at Briscoe after she used a stolen SUV to ram into police cars, injuring one officer, after a chase. She was not injured.
Duncan Dresner, 14
● On June 2, police shot Dresner as he aimed a stolen 40-ton earthmover at police cars after a chase down Grant Road. The shooting paralyzed Dresner from the waist down.
Gwendolyn M. Hamilton, 34
● On March 28, an officer who approached Hamilton, who was arguing with a man, later shot at her as she tried to run him down with a minivan. No one was seriously injured.
Ismael Castro Jr., 18
● On March 17, a police officer fired once at Castro, who was trying to run him down in a van, before jumping out of the way. No one was seriously injured.
Eric Becerra, 23
● On Jan. 30, an officer shot Becerra in the stomach after the officer approached a car connected to an aggravated assault case. The officer thought Becerra pointed a gun at her. Becerra maintains he was unarmed. Another man, who dropped a handgun as he ran from the car, later was arrested and charged in the original case.
