A 37-year-old man in prison for murder was arrested after he was accused in the unrelated slaying of a woman 10 years ago, police said.
Saul Virgen is facing a first-degree murder charge after he was connected to the slaying of Herlinda Pariseau, who was stabbed to death in her north-side neighborhood Sept. 6, 2002, said Sgt. Maria Hawke, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman.
Virgen was in prison for stabbing a Tucson man to death in 2008.
Pariseau, 58, was walking home from a Circle K at Fort Lowell Road and North Stone Avenue early that morning before she was attacked.
A passerby found Pariseau suffering from stab wounds.
The homicide turned into a cold case because there was little information for detectives at the time.

Police received a break in the case in May 2011 after learning new information regarding the case.
Cold Case detectives reopened the case and found the suspect based on the information they received.
The detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Virgen, who was already serving time in an Arizona Department of Corrections facility for the unrelated murder.
Virgen was admitted to the prison in April for second-degree murder and weapons misconduct, according to DOC records.
