Man, 21, surrenders in shooting death
A 21-year-old man suspected of shooting another man to death on the west side turned himself in to police Friday, police said.
Heriberto Garcia-Avalos is facing a first-degree-murder charge after he was suspected of shooting Omar A. Leyva, 18, on April 13 in the 100 block of South Westmoreland Avenue, according to a Tucson Police Department press release.
Tucson police obtained an arrest warrant April 15 and served the warrant Friday when Garcia-Avalos turned himself in.
He was booked into the Pima County jail.
Leyva was shot after a fight involving several men broke out on the street.
The men fled on foot and in a vehicle after the gunfire erupted.

Blaze shuts down north-side store
An electrical fire Friday morning forced a north-side health-food store to close down.
Tucson Fire Department arrived about 5 a.m.to fight the blaze at Aqua Vita Natural Foods, 2801 N. Country Club Road. No one was injured but there was an estimated $75,000 of damage.
Two electrical boxes were destroyed and a gas meter was damaged, and the store will not be able to reopen until the utilities are overhauled, Tucson Fire spokeswoman Capt. Tricia Tracy said.

Police investigate credit union robbery
Police are investigating a robbery of the Pyramid Credit Union office at 7740 E. Speedway.
The rober or robbers the building at about 11 a.m. and forced everybody to the floor. An employee called the police with a cell phone while lying prone.
The robbers remain at large, police spokeswoman Linda Galindo said.
No one was harmed.

Officers seize $51K+ at Douglas checkpoint
Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than $50,000 in southbound cash at the Douglas Port of Entry Thursday.
A 19-year-old man, accompanied by his 20-year-old friend and 39-year-old father, was driving a 2007 Cadillac Escalade in a Mexico-bound lane at about 11 p.m. when they stopped at a checkpoint, said Brian Levin, an agency spokesman.
When officers pulled the SUV aside for further inspection, a specially-trained money-sniffing dog alerted the agents to the undeclared cash, which was stuffed in the men's socks and pockets. Agents seized the $51,770 and the SUV and turned the men over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Agents find pot in Organ Pipe park
Border Patrol agents found about three-quarters of a ton of marijuana in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument Thursday morning.
Two agents were patrolling just west of Lukeville when they found footprints, Agent David Jimarez said.
After tracking the prints for several miles, agents found 73 bundles of marijuana, totaling more than 1,400 pounds.
The smugglers were not found.
