Attention Tucson offshore yacht competitors and cruising sailboat enthusiasts: You're invited to an upcoming meeting of the Civano Micro Yachting Association.
But first, we must qualify several of the above terms.
• Offshore: anything in water and not on dirt.
• Yacht: anything that floats on water, has a point on one end (bow) and has the ability to catch moving air.
• Competitor: an individual who has something on the water that has a pointy end and a wind catcher, and thinks his something is faster than yours.
• Cruiser: any individual who elects to do as they please with their offshore pointy-end wind catcher.
The club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Civano Activity Center, 10501 E. Seven Generations Way.

Micro yachting has captured the hearts and interest of a fast-growing and enthusiastic population.
The American Model Yachting Association (theamya.com) recognizes a specific number of class-defined, radio-controlled, competitive micro yachts. The yachts compete here in Arizona, the rest of the United States, and internationally.
Each of the relatively simple "yachts" adheres to strict construction guidelines. To maximize speed and appearance, however, individuals are given considerable latitude for mechanically customizing their two-channel radio-controlled sailboats.
At Wednesday's meeting there will be boats to look at and ample opportunity to discuss all aspects of boat construction, sailing and racing. No prior sailing or model construction experience is necessary. Members of other AMYA sailing clubs are invited. Please bring your pointy-end wind catcher.
To attend the meeting, RSVP by Monday to Jerry Walker at jerrywalker3@gmail.com or 760-7794. You may also email or call him for directions to the activity center.
