The Senior Exit Project, a project that all seniors in the Vail School District must complete in order to graduate, is, conceptually, a great idea.
Along with the internship-styled job experience, a paper must be written, and a presentation must be given to a board of judges.
The problem is: The project is too long, required too much work and graduation rests on it. I don't complain because of the size and amount of work without reason. The project isn't really a class, and with graduation depending on it, there should be an optional class dedicated to the project so that it can be done thoroughly and to the best of the student's ability.
Also, the teacher situation needs to be addressed.
There was much confusion among the students due to a lack of proper information and propagation of information. The teachers didn't have all the correct information, and the project handbook was from the previous year. This causes great confusion for the students, which is obvious when nearly half the senior class failed the paper.

Again, conceptually, the project is great. But the project must be carried out in a more effective manner in the coming years.
The Senior Exit Project (SEP) has proved to be beneficial to myself and other students that have completed the project.
In my senior year of high school, I did not want to do the SEP. In fact, I thought it was a waste of time. It was not until after I finished it that I realized how it helped.
The SEP requires students to plan a project, shadow a mentor, write a paper and give a presentation.
This made good practice for me as I was planning on going to college. In college you are required to give presentations in some classes, and just about every class requires a paper. Students have a chance to practice these things and to learn about a career.
I have given presentations in my college classes where I had an edge on the other students because I had experience giving a formal presentation.
The SEP also helped me find a job, as I am now working for my mentor and getting firsthand experience in the career I want to pursue.
Students complain about the SEP mainly due to senioritis and laziness, but in the end, most students realize that it really isn't that hard, so there is no reason to complain.
