Mayor's Summer Reading Challenge
The Mayor's Summer Reading Challenge is underway for children and teens.
The challenge runs through July 31.

Readers will receive recognition from Mayor Jonathan Rothschild's office when they reach 10 hours of reading for children 12 and under, and 20 hours for teens.
Salpointe grads earn $20M in scholarships
Salpointe Catholic High School graduates have earned more than $20 million in merit scholarships.
The 282 seniors were accepted to 222 colleges and universities around the world, including Boston College, Brown University, Duke, University College, London and the University of Arizona.

Green Fields offers art scholarships
Students with an interest in visual arts are encouraged to apply for a scholarship to Green Fields Country Day School.
The Luna Scholarship will cover 50 to 100 percent of the winning student's tuition based on need.
To apply, students entering high school must submit a personal statement and portfolio including five to 10 pieces of their artwork through the school's regular admission process.
The high school visual-arts program at Green Fields offers a variety of media and processes, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics and photography.
The deadline to apply is June 15. For admissions information, go to www.greenfields.org online.
Women's association honors Sahuaro grad
A Sahuaro High School graduate has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the American Association of University Women's Tucson Chapter.
Garnet Encinas, 18, received the Louise Hoppy Scholarship, which is given to a Native American student each year.
Encinas is a member of the Tohono O'odham tribe. She was accepted to the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
The mission of AAUW is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.
St. Gregory students take 1st in algebra
Two St. Gregory College Preparatory Middle School students tied for first place in a statewide algebra competition.
The seventh-graders - Lee Costich and Zara Dabdoub - competed in the Arizona Association of Teachers of Mathematics 2013 Algebra Contest.
Their classmate Caroline Zlaket tied for fifth in the state.
The competition is open to all students enrolled in a first-year algebra class who are not currently taking a more advanced mathematics course.
C.E. Rose, Sunnyside in honors spotlight
C.E. Rose PreK-8 has been named an Expect More Excellence Tour Spotlight winner.
Other Southern Arizona winners include the Sunnyside Unified School District and the Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District.
Expect More Arizona launched the Expect More Excellence Tour as a way to shine a spotlight on the great things happening in education.
New charter school hosts open house
A new charter school is hosting an open house Saturday at 6 p.m.
The Rising School, 2222 N. Craycroft Road, will have food, music and information about the campus.
