A bird in the hand usually means it's your turn to serve, at least in badminton.
And for enthusiasts of the racquet sport, the Udall Recreation Center at 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road is the place to be.
"I love the game," said Cholik Chan, 50, a University of Arizona professor in the aerospace and mechanical engineering department.
"I try to play three to four times a week," said Chan, who also likes to play at the UA Recreation Center.
"I like to learn from the kids," he said, smiling.
Chan plays badminton for the exercise and for the training, he said, because he and several of the players at Udall compete in Senior Olympics tournaments.
UA student Lauren Spradlin, 18, said badminton is fun, and she likes it because the Udall Recreation Center is air conditioned. The morning game times also fit into her busy school schedule, which includes playing with the UA marching band, Spradlin said. "It gets me up earlier than noon."
