St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church has a special musical offering the afternoon of Good Friday, which is tomorrow, as well as special service music on Easter Sunday morning.
The Good Friday musical offering, at 5:45 p.m., will be the "Lamentations of Jeremiah" by Jan Dismas Zelenka. Zelenka was one of the greatest representatives of the Bohemian baroque, although he spent most of his life in Dresden, Germany.
The program will be conducted by Jeffrey Campbell, with soloists Jared Levin, baritone; Matthew Holter, tenor; and Kay Wiley, alto; and a chamber orchestra.
On Sunday, special music will be included in the services at 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. American composer Joel Martinson's "Missa Guadalupe" will be presented throughout the service.
This work - for adult choir with brass quintet, timpani and organ - mingles Latin, English and Spanish texts with lovely harmonies, and includes opportunities for congregational singing.
