Low-income homeowners in the city are eligible to apply for home-repair and home-improvement loans at interest rates as low as zero percent.
Loans from $5,000 to $40,000 can be used for such things as roof replacement, heating and cooling upgrades, painting, plumbing or electrical repairs.
They can also be used for room additions to relieve overcrowding, or for fencing, insulation or energy-saving appliances.
The loans are made available through the federal Community Development Block Grant program and run by the city of Tucson and Wells Fargo Bank.
Applicants must own and live in the home where the repairs or improvements are made and must meet income limits. Taxes and all liens or mortgages on the property must be current.
