A controlled burn is planned for the Tortolita Mountains Wednesday, barring severe weather conditions, to eliminate invasive species of trees.

The burn is part of a clean-up project at Carpenter Ranch, which is adjacent to a Pima County preserve north of Tortolita Mountain Park.

Residents may see smoke in the area, Pima County officials said. The burn should conclude on Thursday.
