A person barricaded inside a Vail home was found dead when SWAT officers entered the house Thursday evening, authorities said.
The Pima County Regional SWAT team went to the home in the 10500 block of South Silverbluff Drive, near Colossal Cave Road and Mary Ann Cleveland Way, at about 3 p.m., according to a county Sheriff's Department news release.
After several hours, the SWAT team entered the home and found the person dead, said Deputy Renee Carlson, a Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.
The person died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Carlson said.
Residents in the surrounding neighborhood were evacuated from their homes while the SWAT team tried to negotiate with the person, Carlson said.
The Sheriff's Department would not release any information about the person, including the gender.
