The one-room Redington School, built in 1907, had 10 students in seven grades in 1956, though it had no gas, electricity or running water. It did have indoor pit toilets, however. At least one student rode horseback to school, and children traveled as much as 24 miles to get to class. Go to tucson.com/retrotucson to see more photos.
