FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — After months of restoration work, Lowell Observatory's iconic Clark Telescope is back.
The Arizona Daily Sun reports that the telescope will reopen for daytime tours Saturday for the first time in nearly two years.
The improved telescope has new paint, polished brass and clean components.
The apparatus was removed in December 2013 so engineers and technicians could begin carefully taking out parts.
Lowell had launched an online fundraising campaign to help pay for the work.
The Clark's great white dome has been a hallmark of the Flagstaff skyline since 1896, two years after Percival Lowell decided to have his observatory built atop Mars Hill.
The telescope is named for its maker, Alvan Clark.
