Drivers are being asked to avoid East Old Vail Road on the Southeast Side this afternoon because a stalled train is making the road impassable, authorities said.
The train, which as of 4:30 p.m. is stopped on tracks that cross Old Vail Road about a mile east of Interstate 10, is expected to be there for some time, said Deputy Dawn Hanke, a Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman.
Authorities said a malfunction, not criminal activity, is responsible for the train breakdown.
Hanke said drivers should use South Hougton Road as an alternate route.
