This June, Terrance Owens was sitting on his couch eating dinner when the phone rang.
“Congratulations,” the man on the other line said. “You’ve been drafted by the San Diego Padres.”
The Toledo quarterback didn’t know what to say.
While the Major League Baseball team saw promise in the 6-foot-4 left-hander’s pitching arm, he hadn’t played baseball since ninth grade.
“It was a shocker,” he said. “I didn’t even know how to say thank you.”
Playing professional baseball might be the only way to separate the junior from senior quarterback Austin Dantin .
“I honestly thought it was a joke,” Dantin laughed. “It doesn’t surprise me, because he has a big arm.”

The two have shared quarterback duties for two years now, and will again Saturday when the Rockets open their season at Arizona Stadium.
