There are 18 city and nine county public pools in the area. We are going to all of them so we give you a glimpse of what each one is like.
Which ones have shade? Which ones have grass? Do they have slides but only allow certain ages to go on them? We will do the legwork, so you don't have to.
Fort Lowell Pool
Fort Lowell Pool is located in the middle of Fort Lowell Park at 2900 N. Craycroft Road — between Glenn and Fort Lowell. It is an extended season pool, so it's open from April to November.
Pools: The two-pool complex features a 50 meter pool which ranges from three and a half to 12 feet deep and a one and a half foot wading pool.
The main pool has ladder entry, so you'll have to jump in or climb the ladder.
Hours: Recreational swim is 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Features: There are two diving boards — one high — in the diving bay. A lap area is sectioned off, as well.
Shade: Bring lots of sunscreen. There's not much shade here, except for a small patio-like awning, but there's only enough room for a few people by the main pool. There is a shade structure at the wading pool.
Seating: There's a concrete bench
Facilities: There are separate boys and girls bathrooms and showers, but they are open air, meaning there's no roof.
Condition: Everything was nice and clean. The wading pool was not open on our visit (June 16), but the pool supervisor expects it to be open later in the season.
Family time: Family swim time is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, where you just pay $2 for each adult and kids swim free.
Kids call: This pool has a nice neighborhood feel and is best for kids who don't need any extras to have a good time.
Bonus: Kids were getting swim lessons on our visit and the lifeguards did an amazing job calming the scared ones.
