A Rio Rico man was arrested after a state officer found 22 pounds of methamphetamine in the pickup he was driving on I-10 near Picacho Peak, says a Department of Public Safety news release.
The drugs had an estimated street value of more than $200,000, DPS says.
Jose M. Castellano, 24, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup west on Interstate 10 Tuesday when he was stopped at milepost 216, about 40 miles northwest of Tucson, for following the vehicle ahead of his too closely.
The DPS officer noticed indicators of criminal activity and searched the inside of the truck with his drug-sniffing dog, “Walker.”
In a home-made compartment in the center console of the truck was 22 pounds of methamphetamine, DPS says.
Castellano was booked into Pinal County jail on suspicion of transportation of a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of a dangerous drug for sale.
