The Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency says a Tucson contractor lost a radioactive device that could cause injuries if tampered with.
Agency director Aubrey Godwin says a moisture-density gauge was not properly secured to a pickup truck Monday morning. The device is commonly used in construction projects.
Godwin says the gauge contains radioactive material that could injure someone who eats it or carries it for a long time but is not dangerous if left alone.
Godwin says the device does not have enough radioactive material to be useful to terrorists or others who might wish to cause harm.
Representatives from construction company Pattison Evanoff Engineering did not immediately respond to a message left after business hours Tuesday.
