The second-in-command of Tucson’s largest school district has submitted her resignation — but she wants to keep working with local students.
Patricia Lopez, deputy superintendent for the Tucson Unified School District, is one of two finalists to become the next superintendent of the Marana Unified School District.
The Marana Governing Board will announce its decision next week.
Lopez applied to become TUSD’s next superintendent, but the TUSD Governing Board chose Elizabeth Celania-Fagen, an associate superintendent from Des Moines, Iowa.
The deputy superintendent announced her plans to leave TUSD last week.
“It’s been a great experience,” Lopez said. “I feel good about my accomplishments here.”
