There’s no such thing as too many trees in the Sonoran Desert.
If you’d like to add some to your yard and you own a home in the Trico Electric Cooperative service area, which includes northwest Tucson and Marana, you can get up to three for $20 apiece from Trico’s Operation Cool Shade Program.
The idea is to help homeowners use less energy — trees cool the outer wall temperature of a home by as much as 20 degrees, according to Trico’s website.
Homeowners can choose from four low-water-use varieties: blue palo verde, desert willow, red push pistache and velvet mesquite.
Order a tree now, and it’ll be delivered in September or October by Trees for Tucson.
For more information, go to www.trico.coop (scroll down and click on “Tree Program on the left) or call 744-2944, Ext. 1605.
