The body of a young girl was found in a wash by a group of children Thursday night in Ajo, authorities said.
Detectives are investigating the death as a possible homicide, said Deputy Dawn Barkman, a Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman.
Sheriff’s deputies went to the 500 block of West Ocotillo Avenue in Ajo after receiving a 911 call at about 7 p.m., Barkman said.
According to authorities, a group of children ran to their home and told family members they saw a girl injured in the wash, Barkman said.
The family members went out to the wash and found the girl, who suffered obvious signs of trauma, she said.
No further information about the death was available Thursday night.
Ajo is in the western part of Pima County, about 130 miles from Tucson.
