PHOENIX - A fight at a Phoenix federal prison sent five inmates to the hospital and prompted officials to lock down the facility, a Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman said Tuesday.
The fight broke out Monday in a housing unit at the Federal Correctional Institution, about 25 miles north of downtown Phoenix, and was quickly brought under control by prison officials, said Traci Billingsley, a Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman in Washington, D.C.
Five inmates were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and all but one had been returned to the prison by early Tuesday, said Billingsley.
The prison remained in lockdown pending the outcome of an investigation into the fight, Billingsley said.
No staff members were injured in the disturbance, she said.
