A fire broke out at a auto salvage yard Tuesday.
The fire began shortly before 4 p.m. at All Parts, 701 E. 36th St., near South Euclid Avenue, said Capt. Barrett Baker, a Tucson Fire Department spokesman. Several 911 callers reported the fire.
Workers installed an engine in a car, and when the car started, it backfired and set grass underneath on fire, Baker said. Workers tried to put the fire out, but high winds stoked the blaze and it spread, burning up to 10 cars before firefighters put it out.
Twenty-four firefighters brought it under control in 15 minutes. No one was injured. Damage estimates were not known.
