LINDA SEEGER / ARIZONA DAILY STAR 1993 When Sawyer Brown appeared at the TCC Arena on Feb. 27, 1993, the crowd of just over 4,000 went "mad" for the country-pop group. The reviewer, however, was a bit less impressed: "It was sweet and sugary on the outside and empty and unfulfilling on the inside." Lead singer Mark Miller, shown here, displayed "boundless energy (and) wiggled like a pale imitation of Rod Stewart." Kinder words, however, prevailed for former champion rodeo cowboy Chris LeDoux, who "opened the show in high style, proving that country can cross over to rock without becoming bland." But the middle act, Restless Heart, with their fluffy hairdos and their fluffy pop songs, presented the fans with "unadulterated schmaltz."
