A 69-year-old man was killed Wednesday afternoon when his pickup truck veered off the street, struck a tree then hit an SUV in the opposite lanes of traffic, Tucson police said.
The crash happened just after noon on East Speedway west of North Houghton Road when the driver of a white 2004 white Toyota Tacoma suddenly veered from the eastbound median lane, struck a tree in the median then collided with a black 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS that was traveling west, Tucson police said in a news release.
The pickup driver, Thomas Allan Longanecker, 69, died at the hospital shortly after the crash. The Mercedes driver had minor injuries, the release said.
Investigators have not yet determined what prompted Longanecker to veer off of the eastbound lanes of Speedway.
The investigation continues.
