Michael Landon and Tucson had a long-standing relationship, going back to 1970. He once called Tucson his "second home." From 1983 until his death in 1991, Landon was the host of the annual Celebrity Tennis Classic. On April 15, 1983, the star of "Bonanza" and "Little House on the Prairie" took time out from his tournament to support the Community Food Bank's food drive. He addressed a crowd at El Con and encouraged their contributions to the "big mountain" of non-perishable food that was growing in the center court.
