Hacienda del Sol, 5501 N. Hacienda del Sol Road, first opened as an Episcopal girls school in 1929. It was built by John Murphey.
The prestigious school's roster boasted some of the country's most elite families: Vanderbilt, Pillsbury, Maxwell, Westinghouse and Campbell to name a few.
The school closed in 1942 due to the war, and it opened as a resort in 1948. Here's a picture taken by Bill Sears on Jan. 19, 1957. It shows the kidney-shaped pool with the Catalina Mountains in the background.
The resort employed 25 and could accommodate up to 50 guests. It's still open today.
