BENJIE SANDERS / ARIZONA DAILY STAR 1978 The residents of the "A" Mountain Neighborhood considered this niche a shrine, but Julio Betancourt, seen here examining the niche on Feb. 19, 1978, also saw the recess as an important link to Tucson's past. It was part of the wall of Solomon Warner's flour mill, built in the late 1800s. Betancourt, an archaeologist, was researching the site shortly after the City Council had adopted the Santa Cruz Riverpark Plan, which supported a focus on Tucson's cultural history.
