Without leaving town, Tucsonans got a glimpse and taste of Asia Friday and Saturday at the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center, 1288 W. River Road.
Foods native to Thailand, Laos, Korea, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, India, Kazakhstan and China were featured along with arts, music and dance from various parts of Asia.
The festival was planned as "a fun and entertaining opportunity for the Tucson community to experience the different cultures that make up Asia," said Daniel Leung, this year's event chair, in a press release.
Guests could sample ethnic cuisine and take in cultural entertainment while supporting several local cultural organizations, he said.
About 6,000 people turned out over the two days, raising about $50,000, Leung wrote in an e-mail after the event.
Proceeds will go to nonprofit organizations, including Tucson Meet Yourself, the Pan Asian Community Alliance, and Odaiko Sonora.
