A sonic boom during practice from this weekend’s air show at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base rattled windows and nerves across Tucson Friday afternoon.
The incident was reported at about 2:45 p.m. in the midtown area as aircraft practiced for Thunder and Lightning Over Arizona 2012 open house, authorities said.
One of the demonstrations broke the sound barrier, which caused a sonic boom, according to a Davis-Monthan news release. Breaking the sound barrier is prohibited over populated areas, base officials said.
Anyone who wants to file a claim due to property damage is asked to call the 355th Fighter Wing Claims office at 954-0146 or its public affairs office at 228-3406.
The Air Force base will send claims representatives to assess the damage.
