Even though it was surrounded by rubble, the curved staircase at the old Steinfeld's department store still maintained a look of dignity. On July 23, 1974, the 69-year-old store, at the corner of Stone Avenue and Pennington Street, was being demolished. In its place, the new 16-story Arizona Bank Plaza office building would be constructed.
