Answer: Craig, a Republican, was traveling on June 11 from his home district in Boise to his congressional offices in Washington when he was arrested as part of an undercover sex-solicitation sting in men's restrooms. He was connecting to a Northwest Airlines flight at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport — a major Northwest hub — when he stopped to use the restroom.
Craig pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after the arrest but has since filed papers in Hennepin County (Minn.) District Court to withdraw his plea. Craig contends that he "was panicked" that the incident would prompt a home-state newspaper to publish allegations that he was gay.
The men's room Craig visited was described by the arresting officer as a known location for homosexual activity.
