The Tucson and Region section of December 30 Headline read, "Copper wire theft darkens Tucson streets."
The problem seems to be unsolvable because, "a lack of identifying marks on the wire itself makes the items difficult to track as stolen." Directly beneath that article was the headline, "Two UA researchers named fellows of inventors academy." I would think anyone who "invented" a simple, cost-effective way to apply "identifying marks on the wire itself" would be able to reap financial rewards and help keep the lights on Tucson streets as well as many others.
