Dave Henry has been crowned as the MountainView Preserve Men’s Golf Association (MPMGA) Club Champion for 2025. This was his second consecutive club championship, so members are already planning ways to sabotage his quest for a third win in a row. A committee is being formed for just this purpose. All kidding aside, Dave shot an incredible seven under par for the two-day event which even included a hole-in-one! That hole-in-one also earned him the coveted McDivot award. The McDivot is most often given for some random act of malfeasance on the course, so being awarded for something positive is rare. The ever-gracious Henry refused to accept the McDivot, arguing that third place winner, Egan Hicks, was more deserving for scoring a nine on a hole which took him out of contention for the championship. Hicks, along with Henry and second place finisher, Steve Gabe, all were brilliant on day two, carding six under par 66’s! Steve Rose, Carter Luther, Doug Jones, Kelly Paxton, Doug Zink, Mark Kunnen, Mike Miller and David Cohen were the other flight winners. After the tournament, everyone was treated to another fine luncheon by the fantastic staff at Mountainview. And yes, there was beer!
The end of the year means that we have voted for a new board of directors at the Winter Bash Lunch meeting. But first, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the old board to make being a member of the MPMGA so rewarding for all of us. Special thanks to President Al Bolty and his committee for reviving the old member-guest tournament and turning it into the Desperado, an event that we can all be proud of.
Speaking of the Winter Bash, I wonder why we call it the Winter Bash when it is played more than two weeks before winter officially starts? Most importantly, though, the entire event including lunch and beer was free to all participants! Here are the winners of our last major tournament of 2025. Jim Donat, Ken See, Randy Ross, and Don Plapinger won flight one. Flight two honors went to Charlie Maxim, David Petty, Scott West, and Jim Hardwick. Brian Gallup, Paul Caleb, Bill Bach and Tony Blunt won flight three.
It’s time to be thankful for the fun and frustration we’ve had this year and to look forward to 2026, where we'll make every three-footer, and keep it in the short grass.
