The Wishing Tree
Bill Bethal, Liz Baker-Bowman's step-father, maintains the wishes on the Wishing Tree in Winterhaven in Tucson, Ariz., on December 23rd, 2019. Twenty years ago, when Liz Baker-Bowman was 12, she created the Wishing tree as a science project but it quickly turned into a community event. Baker-Bowman and her family maintain the wishing tree every year and they receive thousands of wishes every night. This year, they have received roughly 10,000 wishes since December 14th, when Winterhaven opened, according to Bethal.
