Lefty Larry and the Blues Avengers have made their way from Tucson to Memphis to compete in the International Blues Challenge, which began yesterday. The Avengers are up against nearly 100 of the most talented blues ensembles from across the country.
Led by Brooklyn-bred blues guitarist "Lefty" Larry Hauer, the band plays electric blues in the style of the three Kings: B.B., Albert and Freddie.
The Avengers won the right to represent the Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Foundation, and the cash to get them there, in Tucson's own blues challenge in September.
Winners of the Blues Challenge in Memphis will take home an array of prizes, including $1,500, an interview in BluesWax magazine, professional consultation with BC Productions Artist Management and time slots at 18 festivals across the country.
