Continued growth of manufacturing contracts in Mexico has helped a Tucson company double in size in the past seven years.
The Offshore Group has grown to more than 100 employees at its Southeast Side plant, at 8350 E. Old Vail Road, said Steven A. Colantuoni, marketing research officer.
"As we grow in Mexico, we grow in the States," he said.
And more companies are looking to take advantage of the company's shelter services.
Santa Fe Springs, Calif.-based Phillips Industries entered a five-year agreement with Offshore, Colantuoni said Wednesday. The company will rent 35,000 square feet of space in The Offshore Group's La Angostura industrial park in Saltillo, Coahuila, in the northeastern part of Mexico, to make wire harnesses for heavy trailers.
Phillips will employ 90 people for its operation.

Founded in 1986, Offshore has about 16,500 employees at its three industrial parks in Mexico. Aside from Saltillo, the company has parks in Empalme and Guaymas, Sonora. It is the sixth-largest maquiladora employer in Mexico, according to Mexican government reports.
More than $1.5 billion in trade crosses through its Tucson compound each year, where raw materials delivered from around the U.S. are shipped south to the industrial parks.
Finished merchandise is then received at the facility and disbursed. All customs regulations are handled by Offshore.
Its shelter services include human-resources management and administration, logistics and facilities services, industrial park management and procurement and environmental services.
