Tucson Time Capsule: Fleetwood Mac drew 67,000 at UA (Time machine newsletter copy)
The Football stadium was also used for concerts throughout its history. Here is a photo from the crowd of 67,000 at the Fleetwood Mac concert in 1977.
Tickets for the show cost $8 to $10 and after only three weeks of being on sale, 23,000 had been sold, according to a 1977 Tucson Citizen article. A total of 60,000 tickets were sold, which meant an estimated 7,000 people got in without one.
In 2014, the Arizona Daily Star reported that it was still considered the largest rock concert in Tucson to date. At the time, it was also the largest rock concert in Arizona history, beating out Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson's 1976 concert in Tempe while filming "A Star is Born."
The Fleetwood Mac concert was the last of its size to be held at the University of Arizona's football stadium until over 30 years later, when Jay-Z, Kelly Clarkson, The Veronicas, Third Eye Blind and Ryanhood, a local folk-rock band, all performed there for the Last Smash Platinum Bash in 2009.
