Check out the McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope under construction at Kitt Peak National Observatory in 1957.
The MMP telescope was once the "largest telescope in the world," but was eventually decommissioned in 2017, according to Kitt Peak's website.
The building is currently undergoing modifications including "a revamped front entrance, the first iteration of the lobby area, a fully revamped Control Room, basic exhibits throughout the rest of the space and a Science on a Sphere data visualization system," according to the observatory's website.
The building is set to reopen next summer.
