SAN LEANDRO, Calif. — A San Leandro teen is dead after authorities say he was so absorbed in a conversation on his cell phone that he walked in front of an Amtrak train.
Sixteen-year-old Daniel Segundo was killed after getting hit by a Capitol Corridor train around 12:30 p.m Wednesday.
Authorities say the teen was talking on his cell phone as he walked around the crossing arms at Alvarado Street in San Leandro, and into the path of the oncoming train.
The train engineer told police that as Segundo talked on the phone he did not look before walking onto the tracks.
Segundo was a student at Lighthouse Independent Studies in the San Leandro Unified School District.
