FLAGSTAFF — A Flagstaff woman has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the August 2007 shooting death of her husband.
A Coconino County Superior Court jury also convicted 41-year-old Jessica Riggins of auto theft and two counts of credit card theft on Tuesday.
Riggins was arrested in California a week after the body of husband Rusty Riggins was found in his home with a gunshot wound to the back of the head. The couple had been scheduled to attend divorce proceedings the week police discovered the body.
Lawyers for Jessica Riggins said she was repeatedly abused by her husband and acted in self-defense. Prosecutors said she planned the confrontation with her husband to have him arrested so she could get $30,000 she believed he had before they separated.
Riggins faces life in prison with parole possible after 25 years or life without parole.
