PHOENIX — The Arizona Senate has approved a revised version of previously vetoed legislation to prohibit a controversial late-term abortion procedure.
Napolitano vetoed the original bill, citing its lack of a criminal penalty stiffer than the federal version. She also cited its lack of a provision to allow a physician to seek a hearing on whether the procedure was needed to save the woman’s life.
The new proposal’s penalty tracks the federal version, and it has a hearing provision.
The Senate’s 18-6 bipartisan vote Monday sends the new version to the House. House approval would send it to Napolitano.
